Аннотация
In 1938 the prominent Russian Turkologist Alexander N. Samoilovich was killed during the Purges. However, his name was not immediately forgotten. At least, three different sources connected to the 1940s revealed the horizontal transmission of knowledge about his works. Moreover, it was exactly the same period when his archive was obtained by academic institutes. This article aims to analyse those episodes to show the complexity of ruptures within the generational data transfer in the intellectual history of Central Asia. The second part
of this article is dedicated to the analysis of a family archive of the Samoilovich family. This analysis reveals the further creation of new horizontal relations. After the 1960s, those relations made it possible to introduce Samoilovich’s legacy to Academia. However, some of the photographs, books, and letters were preserved in the family archive. Their publication can enrich the study of different areas of the intellectual history of the region. Samoilovich himself was a creator of a huge net of informants. This communication network was his way to collect materials and consult the local citizens about their way of life and vision of social phenomena.
Moreover, the family archive can be useful to supplement the data on Samoilovich’s unfinished projects and ideas.
