Аннотация
ВThis article examines the question concerning the origin of knotted long-pile weaving, known as “kotsartsvo”or kots, which is the unique decorative and applied art form originating in the region of Sloboda Ukraine (Slobozhanshchina). According to the author, long-pile carpets with oblique pile textiles (Russian: kotsy),which the city of Kharkiv was famous for in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, served as a production center for such carpets with their rich and authentic history. The history of the “Kots” is tightly intertwined with the history and culture of the steppe peoples who inhabited southeastern Europe in the Middle Ages. This is confirmed both by the history of modern-day northeast Ukraine and by the techniques of the carpets themselves.
