It is noted that the politicization of the subject pertaining to relations between the Porte and the Central Asian khanates affected the views of researchers. Most of them studied Bukhara-Persian, Bukhara-Indian relations in the
period of Baburids, Bukhara-Russian, Ottoman-Persian, and Ottoman-Russian relations from the perspective of the great power rivalry for influence in the Central Asian region. The article draws attention to certain differences in historical research by European, Soviet, and Russian historians. It emphasizes the difference in their foundation source material, which influenced their scholarly approaches. The analysis discusses the works reflecting on the influence of the Sublime Porte on Central Asia and the contacts between the Uzbek khans and the Turkish sultans, the problems arising for Islamic pilgrims from Turkistan, and the issues of military and political alliances of the Uzbek khanates with the Ottoman Empire.
